Lag Putting

Lag Putting:

The first step to good lag putting is good short putting. The more ‘Practice Time’ you put into 3, 4 and even 5-foot putts the more success you will have with lag putting. So, the best place to start is with short putts. It will be well-spent practice time, as it will also help you build confidence in your chipping and pitching.

For a great lag putting drill take five 3-foot pieces of string and space them out on the putting green in 3-foot increments.  Now, get 5 golf balls and pace off 20 feet from the first piece of string. The idea is be able to putt each ball, as close as possible, to a given piece of string. After achieving success at 20 feet try moving back to 30 or even 40 feet. This drill, along with improved success from 3 – 5 feet, can dramatically lower your scoring ability.
