Brush your short Pitches:
If you have problems hitting crisp pitch shots that stop close enough to the hole for realistic one putts then this drill will help you. First, you will need to slightly open your stance as well as the clubface. This will allow the bounce on the club to brush or scuff the ground and prevent the club from digging into the turf. Make several practice swings in this position. The club should thud off the turf. If you are still taking a divot then open the clubface a little more. Make sure that you have a light but not floppy grip. Also, keep the hands moving through the shot and ahead of the club head. Once you have the feel of the swing and the club is scuffing the turf but not making a divot, try some shots. You should find that you are hitting the ball more crisply and imparting more backspin on the ball. Success with this swing will allow you to be more aggressive with you pitch shots and improve you up and down skills. |
