Vanessa Roper came to A.S.U. from Johannesburg South Africa in 1984, on a full tennis scholarship. She played #1 singles and doubles, and was awarded the Terry Gwin Athletes Award. In the summers, Vanessa coached at the Alex Meyer Tennis Academy in Pennsylvania (Alex Meyer’s son’s Gene and Sandy were both ranked in the top 10 in the world in the 80’s).
Vanessa went on to complete her Master of Science in Education Degree emphasizing Exercise Science. After graduating she worked as an Exercise Physiologist at Healthsouth Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic for 12 years. While she was there she had the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients from Olympic athletes to senior citizens.
Vanessa is certified by the most acclaimed health and fitness organizations in America, including The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
. Vanessa has played 5.0 and 4.5 league tennis since college. She currently plays on a 4.5 team who have been State Champions five times.
Vanessa has been a professional tennis coach for over five years. She was the Junior Tennis Director and Personal Trainer at The Jonesboro Country Club for 2 years. She recently upgraded to Pro 1 in the United States Tennis Association, and has aspirations of becoming a Master USPTA |
